Principal’s Message – 2008

As a privileged member of a premier educational institution in Singapore, you can look forward to exciting learning and growth opportunities in the year ahead. Indeed, Temasek Excellence, our unique brand of holistic TJCian education which emphasizes high standards of excellence in all aspects of College life, is designed to prepare you for life. Temasek Excellence is about greatness in Intellect, Character and Leadership. We are well known for our caring and familial culture that encourages rigorous intellectual discourse and nurtures strength of character as aligned to our mission to “Broaden Minds, Touch Hears, Enrich Lives”.

At TJC, we celebrate and value the high energies and idealism of youth as well as the diversity of the student body – we have Singaporeans from all racial groups and foreign nationalities from various countries. An open mind to different views and the rich sharing of perspectives with each other will certainly enrich your learning experiences here. Do challenge each other to think beyond the traditional domains of knowledge, and in your peer interactions create new knowledge, and different & meaningful ways of perceiving the world around you. Be proactive in charting your own growth and development by exercising your personal responsibilities to seize upon the available opportunities to enhance your own learning with Passion, Purpose, Drive, Integrity and Care for Others. The strong friendships that you forged at TJC will certainly last you a life time.

At TJC, we share a fundamental belief in leadership through service to others and being proactive in helping those in need, this is underscored in our timeless College Motto: For College, for Nation. Over the past three decades, many TJ alumni members have taken on leadership roles in serving their chosen profession, our community and nation, fulfilling their “will to blaze Temasek’s fame”. In your time with us, do continue to develop your own personal vision and set goals to measure your progress towards it. Do give some thought to the ‘legacy’ you and your cohort will leave for the TJCian family – with the intention to make Temasek Junior College, your Home away from Home, an even better place than when you first joined us.

Together with the dedicated and highly committed staff fraternity at TJC, and you the TJCian, we will continue to build upon our rich heritage and blaze Temasek’s fame in the years to come. I look forward to each and every one of you doing your part to uphold the good name of the College. You are certainly in control of your own destinies, the creators of the contents of your own book of living with the pages yet to be written for Yr 2008. You will get as much out of your experiences at TJC as your willingness to embrace the many learning opportunities here!
