Remarks
1 The number of units assigned to H1, H2, H3 subjects are as follows:

2 The total number of units for a chosen subject combination can range from
a minimum of 10 units to a maximum of 12 units, including MTL. If MTL is excluded, the
number of units will range from 9 to 11.
3 Students are required to do a minimum of 3 H2 + 1 H1 + GP + PW + MTL.
Students need not take the MTL examination if they have obtained a D7 or better in Higher
MTL at the O level as they would be deemed to have fulfilled the H1 MTL requirement. As
MTL is an integral part of the new A level curriculum, H1 MTL cannot be
replaced with another subject.
4 Project Work (PW) and General Paper (GP) are compulsory H1 subjects.
5 Knowledge & Inquiry (KI) is a H2 subject which will replace GP if it
is offered. In this case, KI will be the fourth H2 subject.
6 All subject combinations must include 1 contrasting subject, taken at
either H1 or H2 level.
7 The minimum enrolment of a particular subject should not be less than
15 students; the college administration reserves the right not to start the class in
such a situation.
8 Music Elective Programme (MEP): All music students are MEP students
and they will have to offer H2 and H3 Music. The MOE criteria for students to be accepted
in the Music Elective Programme are:
i. Students must obtain at least a pass in GCE O level
Music OR
ii. Students must have at least a Grade 5 Practical & Grade 6
Theory ABRSM, or equivalent.
MEP Scholarships
Up to five scholarships are awarded to JC MEP students each year. Each scholarship, valued
at $1000 per annum, with exemption from school fees, is tenable for 2 years subject to the
scholars satisfactory progress and performance at the end of JC One.
9 Language Elective Programme (LEP): Selection will be done by the
MOE and all LEP students must offer H2 & H3 Chinese Language and Literature (CLL).
Students applying for the Language Elective Programme must obtain:
i. at least a B3 for the O level Higher Chinese (HCL) OR
ii. at least an A2 for the O level Chinese (CL) OR
iii. at least a B4 in O level HCL and a pass in O Level
Chinese Literature.
LEP (Chinese) Scholarships
Students selected for the LEP(Chinese) will automatically be considered for the Language Elective Scholarships (Chinese) if they are Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents or children of Singapore Citizens. Each scholarship, valued at $1000 per annum, with exemption from school fees, is tenable for 2 years subject to the scholar’s satisfactory progress and performance at the end of JC One. Scholarship recipients must offer the Higher Chinese Special Paper. Upon the release of the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) posting results, short-listed scholarship candidates will be invited for a selection interview.
10 Humanities Programme:
Caters to all Humanities scholars and TJC Arts Book Award recipients, as well as top performing Arts students. [GPA of at least 4 for TA3 students; LR15 of 7 or less for JC1 students]
Humanities Scholarships
The Humanities Scholarship is valued at $1000 per annum, with exemption from school fees, is tenable for 2 years subject to the scholar’s satisfactory progress and performance at the end of JC One. Scholars must take at the H2 level, English Literature and at least two other Humanities subjects. Their second H2 Humanities subject can be either, Economics, History, or Geography. The third Humanities subject that the students offer can be either Economics, History, Geography, China Studies in English/Chinese, Art or Music (Music Elective Programme), or foreign Languages [French/German/Japanese].
11 H2 Biology, Physics and/or Chemistry: Students who wish to
offer any of these subjects at H2 level must have offered the corresponding subject at
TA2 or O
level. Those who offered Combined Science at O-level must have obtained Grade 1 or 2. All
other cases will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
12 H2 Mathematics: Students who wish to offer H2
Math but have no Additional Math background should be prepared to do the necessary bridging so as to be
able to cope with the rigour of the subject. Arts students without Additional Math background will offer
Math at H1 level.
13 H3 Subjects: Selection will be based on academic results.
Students who wish to offer a particular subject at H3 level must have offered the same
subject at H2 level. More details will be given later.
