Examinations
Common Tests
There will be one Common Test per subject per year for all JC and TA(IP) students. The Common Tests are conducted under examination conditions. They are normally held in the first week of the third term of each year. In addition to the Common Tests, lecture tests and class tests are held at various times at the discretion of the Subject Tutors.
Preliminary Examinations for JC Two Students
This is normally held in the first two weeks of the fourth term.
Promotional Examinations for JC One Students
This is normally held in early October. Performance in the examinations will decide whether a student is promoted, retained or superannuated. However, students’ conduct and tutors’ report will also be considered.
To be promoted to JC Two, a student must have 90% attendance for lectures and tutorials, and obtain at least 2 H2 passes or equivalent (1 H2 pass is equivalent to 2 H2 sub-passes).
Conditions for the Continuation of a Four H2 Subjects
Repeating JC One or JC Two students are not permitted to offer four subjects at H2 level. To continue with 4 H2 subjects, a student has to pass all H2 subjects.
Conditions for Offering of H3 subjects
To take 1 H3 subject, the student must have scored at least BCC in the previous exams in all content subjects and at least a B for the same subject in H2.
To take 2 H3 subjects, the student must have scored at least BBB in the previous exams in all content subjects and at least a B for the same subjects in H2.
Exemption from the Examinations and Tests
A student may be exempted from a test or examination only if he/she is medically unfit. A medical certificate must be produced.
The College shall decide whether a student who has missed tests and examinations with or without medical certification, should be promoted, retained or superannuated.
Endorsement in Records
Where possible, an overall grading based on tests, assignments, projects and other course work will be given to students exempted on medical grounds. If this is not possible, an ‘X’ will be recorded against the relevant subjects.
A zero and/or grade ‘U’ will be recorded against the subject for a student who had no medical excuse for his/her absence from a test or examination.
Students who decide to resist their L2 paper, after obtaining satisfactory grades in any earlier ‘A’ Level Examinations, will have the better of such grades endorsed in their documents.
Writing Paper
Students are required to use only the College writing pads when taking tests and examinations and for all class assignments that have to be submitted to the teachers for assessment. No other types of paper may be used.
Instructions to Candidates in the Examination Hall/Room
Students must be at their seats in the Examination Hall/Room 15 minutes before the time fixed for the start of the paper. Students may leave their bags and books at the front or outside the Examination Hall/Room.
Action will be taken against students whose hair or attire is not in compliance with the College Regulations.
Students who are 30 minutes late for a paper will not be allowed to sit for that paper without the approval of the Principal or the Vice-Principal.
Electronic calculators may be used for all papers. Graphing calculators are required for mathematics papers.
Students must write clearly their name, subject examines and Civics Group on every sheet of paper handed in.
Students must remain seated while their answer scripts are being collected and counted.
Students are not allowed to leave the Examination Hall/Room before the end of the time allocated for the paper or without the permission of the invigilator. Such permission will not be granted within the first and the last 30 minutes of each paper.
Handphones, pagers and other electronic devices that facilitate communication are strictly not allowed in the Examination Hall/Room. Possession of these devices will be deemed as an intention to cheat.
Any student who is caught cheating or behaving suspiciously will be expelled from the Examination Hall/Room and will then be dealt with by the Principal or the Vice-Principal.
