Student Life
The Student Life Programme incorporates the Lifeskills and Values Education to assist students in their personal and character development. They will be taught study skills, time management skills, communication and relationship skills, how to prepare for working life and other skills which are integral to social development. The Programme also seeks to liven up College life by injecting fun and vibrancy into the plethora of student activities, with the annual Temasek Challenge which pits CGs against one another in friendly competitions.
National Education
National Education aims at helping TJCians understand what being Singaporean means, and why we should work at developing social cohesion, the instinct for survival and confidence in the future. It also exposes students to the needs of the community and enables them to be active participants in community and national life, while they are at school and in the years to come. With the upcoming Asian Youth Games (AYG) and Youth Olympic Games (YOG) preparation, look out for more exciting activities in 2009-2010.
Outreach Programme

The Outreach Programme has always been the cornerstone of Student Life in the College and are one of the major platforms for leadership development. Students are encouraged to initiate their own Outreach projects and participate in college-wide community service. The Overseas Outreach and Special Project Groups are programmes tailored for those who are innovative and have a passion for community service. The College encourages students to give back to the community as this will instill in them the values of empathy, compassion and volunteerism.
Personal Leadership Development
Key features of the Personal Leadership Development include the Gallup StrengthsFinder and Individual Development Plan. Students will undergo the StrengthsFinder development tool to gain a better understanding of their strengths and potential areas for development. Through it, they can also discover their own learning styles and meaningfully channel their time and energy into honing their interests and skills. Selected students will also embark on the Leadership Challenge journey in Student Leadership to a good understanding of the 5 main practices to enable them to become more effective leaders. They may go on to join the Student Leadership’s Mazarin Programme, TJC’s highly selective flagship leadership programme, to further develop their leadership potential through action research, seminars, workshops, internships and other activities.
Special Project Groups (SPG)
This is a special community leadership programme that aims to provide students with opportunities to start community projects in collaboration with external organizations. These projects must stem from original ideas and must benefit the community. Students have to approach organizations on their own for sponsorship, submit proposals and, if approved, execute their plans. They will be running these projects independently albeit under the supervision of college staff and the sponsor organization.
Student Interest Groups (SIG)

This is a special leadership programme that aims to engage students in their interest / passion-driven areas which are outside those offered by the College through its PDPs.
Students can apply to start their own SIG in any interest area. They will have the autonomy of running the SIG and gain valuable experience in managing operational issues. Students get to exercise creativity, initiative, innovation and enterprise skills, resilience and resolve. Successful SIGs will have the opportunity to showcase their projects.
In addition to facilitating students’ pursuit of their varied interests, SIGs add to the vibrancy of student life in TJC and give our students an edge as they are required to conceptualise, innovate and implement programmes entirely on their own.
Asian Youth Games (AYG 2009) & Youth Olympic Games (YOG 2010)
The inaugural AYG will be staged in Singapore in 2009 and YOG, 2010. Along with these exciting events are a multitude of opportunities for student all-round development.
Sports alongside education and culture will be the focus for both AYG and YOG. Together with students at Temasek Primary School and Temasek Secondary School, TJCians will have opportunities to interact with youth from participating countries, especially India and Laos.
Events will be organized and aligned with TJC’s calendar for students to participate. These events will tap on TJC’s strengths and share TJC’s teaching and learning objectives. Students are also strongly encouraged to propose innovative and feasible initiatives, grab this once-in-a-lifetime hosting of AYG and YOG in Singapore and etch for themselves unforgettable memories.
